FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – ANNUAL ALABAMA FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE LAW ENFORCEMENT MEMORIAL

Sheriff Blake Dorning announces today that the Madison County Sheriff's Office will participate in the Annual Alabama State Fraternal Order of Police Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial. The memorial will take place on Friday, May 6th at 11:00 a.m. on the grounds of the State Capitol in front of the Fallen Officer's Memorial.
The memorial is sponsored by the Alabama State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police. State Memorial Chairman Tom Swatek invited the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard to participate in the State Memorial during its 2016 and 2017 Services. The Honor Guard will provide the 21 Gun Honor Volley during the Service. The service will recognize Sergeant Charles Mitchem of Loxley Police Department, Patrolman Roger O’Dell of Town Creek Police Department, Lieutenant Richard Woods of Pell City Police Department and Officer David Colley of Montgomery Police Department, all which died in the line of duty during 2015. An additional 532 line of duty deaths have occurred in Alabama since 1845 and their service is memorialized.
Madison County’s Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 6 Memorial will occur next week with multiple agency participation. The National Memorial will be in Washington D.C. on May 15th with five deputies attending to honor the 128 who died in 2015 nationwide.
