(Special Weapons and Tactics)
Madison County has fielded a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team since 2005. The team is made up of Deputies selected from the various Divisions that make up the Sheriff's Office. The team is lead by a Sgt. and Lieutenant, and is assigned to the Special Operations Division. The team is responsible for serving high risk search and arrest warrants, responses to terrorism and active shooter incidents, conducting dignitary protection, handling barricaded persons calls, search and rescue, and other types of calls.
SWAT members are on call and train 40 hours minimum a month. MCSO Deputies that are interested in joining the team must complete a selection day, and then are placed on a 6 month probation.
The team averages 100 calls for service a year in search warrants and barricaded persons.
This team is responsible for:
- Hostage/Barricade Situations
- High-Risk Warrant Service/Apprehension
- Sniper Situations
- Active Shooters
- Personal Protection
